Hydrating Your Skin Post Holi: Tips and Tricks

Holi, the most colorful festival of the year, is nearly here, but before we go out, we must remember to be careful and take care of our skin because there are so many colors on the market, and we never know who is using the right ones. While organic colors are environmentally friendly and healthy for your skin, the chemicals used in their production can cause skin harm.

In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr. Chiranjiv Chhabra, Director and Chief Dermatologist at Alive Wellness Clinics, urged on continuously hydrating your skin, saying, "The chemicals used in Holi colors dry the skin. Apply a hydrating overnight sleeping mask the night before, and remain hydrated by drinking lots of water, coconut water, or fruit juice. This will help maintain your skin healthy and moisturized.

He said, "For a few days after playing Holi, avoid using any strong scrubs or exfoliants. Your skin needs time to repair and recover from the impact of the hues. Remember that prevention is always better to treatment, therefore take steps to protect your skin during Holi. After Holi, use a gentle cleanser to gradually remove the colours off your skin. Avoid using harsh soaps or scrubs to avoid breaking into the skin and causing dryness or rashes. Scrub off the cleanser with lukewarm water and bathe your skin in a nice, clean towel."

Following your usual washing, Dr Chiranjiv Chhabra said, "Moisturize your skin to rehydrate it naturally and avoid dry skin, scrubbing, or rash conditions." After using aloe vera gel, coconut oil, or any other natural moisturizer, use the Holi coloring to rehydrate and smooth the skin. Apply a wet face mask to soothe and renew your skin after being exposed to harsh colourants. After Holi, drink plenty of water to hydrate your body and wash away toxins while keeping your skin moisturized.

Dr. Geetika Mittal Gupta, Founder and Medical Director of ISAAC Luxe, added the following recommendations to the list:

  • Moisturize your skin abundantly before venturing out for the Holi festivities. You can accomplish the same thing using coconut oil. Massage a good amount of oil into your arms, feet, neck, and hands. If you have oily skin, apply a mild moisturizer on your face. Don't forget to apply oil to awkward places like finger gaps and behind the ears. Apply Vaseline petroleum gel or lip balm to your lips.
  • A high-quality oil champi is the greatest hair care tip you can apply to safeguard your glossy locks from the Holi aftereffects. You can do the same thing with argan or coconut oil. This ensures that the colours come out easily from your hair.
  • You may also get treatments like Hydra Facials and Profhilo to hydrate your skin right away. Profhilo gives your skin a natural shine by increasing moisture for an extended length of time. If you plan on playing Holi, you should get treatment like Porfhilo at least a week in advance.
  • Start toning your skin as soon as possible. Toner should be used every morning after cleansing your face and before applying moisturizer. This will help reduce pores.

After all, you don't want any possibly dangerous hues to enter your skin.
Make sure to apply strong sunscreen before beginning your Holi activities. You will be exposing your skin to both the sun and colors, and sunscreen can help with tanning. Sunscreen use should be encouraged both before and after the Holi celebrations.
